’90s kids rejoice! The stars of your favourite sit-com Home Improvement are reuniting, with Tim Allen and Richard Karn coming together for a new reality TV series on the History Channel called Assembly Required.
The new show will have Allen and Karn supervising and guiding builders as they attempt to create something valuable out of a selection of trash they are provided. Speaking on the new show, the History Channel states “Assembly Required will spotlight the best and brightest builders from across the US, at their home workshops, as they compete to breathe new life into everyday household items in desperate need of fixing. This new series will push each contestant to their limits while testing their ability and ingenuity to not only rebuild it but to build it better.”
Host Tim Allen also commented on the new show, stating, “There are some people who unfriend, unfollow and dispose of anything that offends, annoys or breaks – so I’ve created a show to remind people of the satisfaction and pride that comes from rebuilding something on their own. And who better to join me than my buddy from the old Tool Time days – Richard Karn!”
Although a lot of us were probably hoping for a Home Improvement reboot, it seems Tim is behind the idea as well, stating in an interview last year that he would 100% go back if it was on the cards.
“I always think about it, because I still talk to everybody involved. The question I had was, ‘Is it still relevant? Is Tim Taylor relevant in the Mike Baxter world?’ Because Mike Baxter [Allen’s character in current show Last Man Standing] is like a real version of Tim Taylor; he’s not such a joke.”
But it appears Allen isn’t totally for it to be rebooted as a show, but rather, a one-off movie, stating “I like the idea of doing it as a one-off, like a one-hour movie,” Allen said.
“I like the idea of finding out where the boys are now, and where… Tool Time would be in today’s world. I just think it’s a marvellous idea, and all the actors think it’s a great idea.”
Home Improvement ran from 1991 to 1999, helping to launch Tim Allen and Pamela Anderson’s respective acting careers. It would definitely be a joy to see the Taylor family reunite on the big screen, fingers crossed we get it soon…
