Words can’t describe how keen we are…

The Joe Exotic limited series is finally getting off the ground, and its finally nailed down the star who’ll portray the meth-addicted, Tiger-loving and murder-planning lead. Hailing from Broadway musical Hedwick and the Angry Inch as well as TV + screen projects like The Good Fight and How To Talk To Girls At Parties, John Cameron Mitchel has secured the role of Joe Exotic for the new series.

Speaking on what is about to be the biggest role of his life, Mitchell said. “I’m thrilled to take on the role of this modern folk antihero. Joe and I are the same age and like him, I grew up queer in Texas, Oklahoma and Kansas so I feel like I know a little bit about this guy and his desperate attempt to conquer an inhospitable world.”

This isn’t to be confused with the Nicolas Cage Tiger King show from Amazon however, as the limited series Mitchell and McKinnon will be helming is based on the Wondery Podcast of the same name. But no doubt Mitchell will have a bunch of competition, with multiple interpretations of the Tiger King soon to be out floating in the universe.

It’ll be interesting to see what the real Joe Exotic himself has to say about the portrayals, but we’re guessing we won’t find that out for a while, you know, with the whole serving a 27-year prison sentence for planning a murder thing.

Anyway, check out the trailer for the OG Tiger King Netflix series below to be reminded of its insanity and to get an idea of what we can expect from the new series’.
