We all know the struggle that comes when you’re trying to choose what to watch on Netflix, the feeling of being totally overwhelmed with the countless titles at your disposal. Nostalgic throwback or brand-new blockbuster? 20-minute-TV show or three-hour Christopher Nolan epic? It’s a choice that’s far too big for us mere mortals, so it’s lucky Netflix are trialing a new shuffle feature to take all our struggles away.
Specifically, the streaming service is trialing a new “Play Something” feature which will pick and play a certain Netflix title based on what your Netflix history and what’s on your Netflix playlists, in the hope of taking away the existential dread we all get when having to choose something to watch.
Speaking on the new feature, a Netflix spokesperson said “The purpose of the test is to make it easier for members to find something to watch.”
Right now the feature is just in the testing phase, but “the hope is to absolutely productise something”, according to Netflix.
Interesting new feature @netflix … but what kind of insane person just says, “yolo, let’s spin the Netflix wheel of fortune” pic.twitter.com/6WDJrmd7pG

To check whether you’ve got the new feature, open the Netflix app on your TV, and a “shuffle play” button will appear under the profile screen, on the home screen of your profile. If that isn’t the case for you, it looks like you’ll have to deal with the horror of having to choose something without the help of Netflix for just a bit longer.
