In amazing news that will make comedy lovers and cynics in general very happy, South Park fans may be getting a reboot for a range of new movies. The news comes after ViacomCBS Entertainment and Youth Group’s new senior vice president of adult animation, expressed interested in making more movies and specials based on the beloved series. And don’t worry, as it’ll only happen if OG creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker are on board for the project.
Speaking on potential for the reboot, the Vice President said “As long as you’re doing something new, and that could be anything from a new style to a new tone to a new voice coming from a specific writer, I think it can work. An animation audience is looking for something unique. That’s what The Simpsons and South Park have famously done. So I want to try a little bit of everything, even though a lot of it will be targeted to the tried and true with brands people know.”
It seems everyone wants a piece of the South Park pie, with HBO Max paying $500 million USD ($691 million AUD) a little while back to licence back episodes of the series for the next few years. However, when that deal expires, ViacomCBS could house the series on its own streaming service, along with any new movies and specials to be made in the coming years.
It’s safe to say that this definitely needs to happen, and will be super dope to see our favourite band of animated bandits together on the big screen.
