“This Is Not What Byron Is About” – Prepare To Cringe At The ‘Byron Baes’ Trailer
Still keen but…

What is the spirit of Byron Bay?

To some Byron Bay is a chilled-out, bohemian surf town that ambles along at a slower, more spiritual, pace to the rest of the world. Others would argue that soaring rent prices, high-end retail and restaurants, as well as a growing influx of celebrity and would-be celebrity blow-ins, has marked the end of the coastal oasis, leaving nothing more than a resort town. And now we have what the people in the latter category recognise as the final nail in the coffin: Netflix’s Byron Baes reality series.

The trailer, which just dropped today, sees a group of “hustlers” and “creatives” living their best carefree lives in the Northern NSW town, with a little a classic reality TV drama thrown in there (see The Batchelor, MAFS, Real Housewives etc and you’ll know exactly the shite we’re talking about). No Byron cliche is off limits with sound healing, crystals and white linen clothing all getting a thorough rinse, with the trailer offering some chewy stabs at these textbook Bayisms.

Cringe-o-metre peaks when one of the cast members says, “This is not what Byron is about!” in a completely non-sarcastic way, showcasing the stick-up-ass, god-complex arrogance of the worst of Byron Bay locals. We’re still collectively laughing at that one. All episodes will be available from March 9th, so be sure to tune in for the lols.
