The Internet is currently losing its shit at the fact that the round pellets of goodness will come with a creamy caramel filling, with Mars Chocolate – the makers of M&M’s – announcing the groundbreaking news via Facebook. The introduction of caramel has been an arduous task: Over two years of development have been poured into the new filling, while it’s also called for the introduction of 70 new employees at the Mars factory in Topeka, Kansas.
Hank Izzo, the Vice President of Development & Research at Mars, said that “It was a big technological challenge for us. We never before had a M&M lentil with a true soft center, so we had to figure out how to not make the chocolate too sticky or too soft that it could collapse.” Who knew that chocolate could be so scientific? Thanks, science. The caramel M&M’s are slated to hit shelves in May 2017, so you can sort out your snacks in anticipation for the biggest culinary revolution in recent history.
