During a trial that has included claims of mattress defecation and more than a few hearsay objections, the courtroom housing Johnny Depp’s defamation case against ex-wife Amber Heard has recently welcomed two new oddities – a pair of alpacas. Brought by a fan to the actor’s trial in Virginia, the furry incomers were intended to provide emotional support, with the wrangler noting that she “thought the alpacas might brighten [Depp’s] day.”
The animals, leashed in a “Justice for Johnnie” sign, join legions of other fans who’ve flocked to the trial since it first began earlier this month. The development is an apparent reference to a comment made by Depp’s lawyer, who asked during testimony whether even “$300 million and a million alpacas” would convince him to return to his role as Captain Jack Sparrow.

Televised for the past two weeks, the 58-year-old is suing Heard for $69 million over a 2018 Washington Post article, in which the actress claimed to have been the victim of physical and sexual abuse. For her part, the alpaca superfan admitted that Depp may not have noticed her gesture on what was the actor’s fourth consecutive day of cross-examination. The trail is expected to run for five weeks, with Heard set to give her testimony in the coming days.
