Original lead Damian Lewis is returning for the home stretch as well…

The highly anticipated return of Damian Lewis as Bobby “Axe” Axelrod in the final season of Billions sent waves of excitement through fans from the moment of its announcement. Lewis, who confirmed his return during an appearance on the Late Show With Stephen Colbert earlier this year, is back as the enigmatic financial genius who’s returned from his self-imposed exile to Switzerland. In the Billions universe, Axe had retreated to Switzerland to escape the relentless pursuit of Chuck Rhoades (played by Paul Giamatti), the former New York State attorney general. His comeback is set to shake up the remaining crew of money-hungry psychopaths, with Axe returning to the fray for six episodes of retribution.

But before Axe’s long-awaited comeback tour, it’s important you refresh yourself with the events of the previous season. Picking up right after his disappearance, season six immediately starts with his arch nemesis, Mike Prince (played by Corey Still) acquiring the total Axelrod fortune and assuming the role of the new head honcho in the Billions-verse. However, Chuck Rhodes appears to be unaffected by Prince’s power, leading him to place him directly in his crosshairs.

Thus, the season largely consists of Prince trying to attain the respect and fear associated with his new-found standing, but to no avail. it even takes him to Wendy Rhodes of all people, with the looming backdrop of an Olympic Games causing him to get hot under the collar as the ground begins to sink beneath his feet.

Slowly, but surely, the two end up coming to blows at the tail end of the season, with it culminating in an all-out war in the season finale, as Chuck makes a last ditch play to destroy Prince’s political ambitions. The narrative navigates through flashbacks and revelations, culminating in a showdown involving hidden drives containing billions in untaxed cryptocurrency. Unexpectedly, Kate Sacker (played by Maggie Siff), emerges as a key player in the finale, with Chuck exploiting a past case of hers to manipulate her into aiding him in exposing Prince’s misdeeds. The tension rises as Chuck races against time to unlock the encrypted cold-storage devices, revealing the untaxed cryptocurrency and lost billions.

It was one of the most chaotic season finales in Billions history, and it’s set the stage perfectly for Axelrod’s return. For now, check out a full recap of season six below.
