Zombies are getting ready to invade our screens again, and this time, they’re bringing some unlikely allies with them. The Walking Dead: Dead City is coming to AMC and AMC Plus on June 18th, and it’s all about Maggie (played by Lauren Cohan) and Negan (played by Jeffrey Dean Morgan) teaming up to find Maggie’s son, Hershel. Apparently, he’s been kidnapped and taken to a derelict New York City (at least that’s what the trailers are heavily hinting at), which is a bummer for him. Still, it’s not nearly as bad as getting his head bashed in by a baseball bat (we’ll never forget you, Glenn).
But fear not, Dead City is a miniseries, which means it won’t drag on for ten seasons like the original Walking Dead. The show is made up of only six episodes, so it’s like a quick, intense zombie snack, an entree if you will. And if you’re wondering who else is joining Maggie and Negan on their undead adventure, there’s a whole cast of characters, including Gaius Charles, Karina Ortiz, and Mahina Napoleon.
The latest teaser for the show also gives us a look at a teenage Hershel in the new series (hello growth spurt), which means some time has passed since the events of season 11. In addition, it seems the tactics of the ever-evolving zombies have developed as well, with good guy Negan at one point saying, “Seriously, Walkers are falling from the sky now?!” as legions of undead swarm them. It seems that, despite the optimistic series finale of The Walking Dead, it is literally impossible to catch a break during a zombie apocalypse. Check out the latest trailer for Dead City below.
