Super pricey.

Definitely gonna make waves…

Apple has unveiled it’s first over-ear headphones in the AirPods Max, and they’re pricey AF. Starting at $549 USD ($899 AUD), the headphones offer active noise cancellation, hands-free access to Siri and all current Apple design elements such as a breathable knit mesh for the headband. The ear cups are also cushioned with memory foam and a “revolutionary mechanism”, which attaches the ear cups to the headband which allows pivoting and rotation for a better fit.

It’s also got mad on-board controls, with a Digital Crown for volume and audio, along with the ability to take calls and activate Siri as well. Bass lovers will ge their fix as well, as the AirPods Max packs in 40-mm drivers that will deliver heavy bass, mid-range accuracy and perfect highs.

One of its most stunning features is definitely the active noise cancelling however, which it achieves with three external microphones in each cup that monitor the noise around you, with another mic inside to catch any stragglers that sneak in. It constantly monitors and adapts to fit and movement to ensure the listening experience isn’t at all bothered by the outside world.

Other specs include 20 hours battery life as well as a Smart Case that activates an  “an ultralow power state” to “preserve battery” when the headphones aren’t being used. And don’t worry, if you need to use the headphones without bluetooth, they come with a 3.5mm audio cable.

Although they seem stacked with features, Apple is copping a bit of flack online for how pricey the new headphones are (fair enough tbh) with countless people taking to social media to express their distaste, writing things like “In a year when people are dipping into their savings to survive a pandemic, Apple are out here making £550 headphones” with others saying “to put it into perspective, Apple’s new headphones the AirPods Max cost the same as a PS5”. They’ve all definitely got a point, but knowing Apple and their customers, these badboys are probably gonna sell out in record time. Be sure to check out the reactions below and you can pre-order the new headphones here.
