Chad would be proud…

The Golden Globes were definitely different yesterday,  from red carpets to crowds to acceptance speeches and so much more, the once funnest celebration in Hollywood was reduced to a virtual award show compiled of countless Zoom calls. For the most part it was relatively easy to get used to, especially after the world’s crazy 2020. However, one part of the awards that definitely wasn’t something we were able to get used to was the absence of the late Chadwick Boseman, who passed away last year from colon cancer.

But his presence was still felt, especially when he won the Golden Globe for Best Actor In A Motion Picture – Drama for his role in Netflix’s Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom. Accepting the award on his behalf, his wife Taylor Simone Ledward gave the most classy and emotional acceptance speech, and it’s fair to say there wasn’t a dry eye in the virtual house.

Tearfully beginning the speech, she said “He would thank God. He would thank his parents. He would thank his ancestors for their guidance and their sacrifices. He would say something beautiful, something inspiring, something that would amplify that little voice inside of all of us that tells you, ‘You can,’ that tells you to keep going, that calls you back to what you are meant to be doing at this moment in history,” she continued.

“I don’t have his words, but we have to take all the moments to celebrate those we love, so thank you [Hollywood Foreign Press Association], for this opportunity to do exactly that. And, honey, you keep ’em coming. Thank you.”

Pretty heart wrenching, the camera also panned to various of Boseman’s fellow nominees as Ledward gave her speech, all of whom visibly moved by her words. Check the full speech below.
