The medical storyline of a lifetime…

We’ve just gotten the new trailer for the upcoming season of Grey’s Anatomy Season 17, and it’s like looking at a bloody mirror (a mirror full of Hollywood actors, but let’s ignore that part). What with the world going to absolute shit as a result of COVID-19, there’s been mad speculation about whether medical dramas like Greys Anatomy would even touch the subject. It appears they indeed are, with the trailer showing the cast covered in face masks and personal protective equipment.

The show isn’t just touching on COVID-19, but also crossing over with TV series Station 19, which follows a group of Seattle firefighters on and off the job. Thus, it appears we’re gonna get a whole spectrum of emotions with this new season.

Opening up on the decision to include COVID-19 in the show’s storyline, executive producer Krista Vernoff said “There’s no way to be a long-running medical show and not do the medical story of our lifetimes.”

Vernoff also revealed that writers had met with real-life medical professionals who shared their experiences of working in the pandemic, to help make the scripts as authentic as possible.

“Every year, we have doctors come and tell us their stories, and usually they’re telling their funniest or craziest stories,” she said.

“This year, it has felt more like therapy. The doctors come in and we’re the first people they’re talking to about these types of experiences they’re having. They are literally shaking and trying not to cry, they’re pale, and they’re talking about it as war – a war that they were not trained for.”

The first episode of the new season is set to drop on November 12. Check the full trailer below.
