A lot to unpack…

The fifth season of Rick And Morty is itching closer and closer to hitting our screens, and Adult Swim are continuing to build anticipation with their latest teasers. Getting a trailer for the new season along with a 17 minute short as a standalone, it’s clear fans are well in for a pretty mind-bending season arc when episodes start rolling in on June 20.

The trailer for the show itself revealed a whole lot of nothing while teasing a whole lot of everything, with moments like Power Rangers parodies, monster attacks and so on all getting shown briefly, but all without context or defining info. It’s just a lot of moments jammed into one, but through it all is the consistent teaser that the Sanchez family is indeed occupying a multiverse, with Monty asking at one point “What have we become? Why are we even doing this anymore?”

The 17 minute short released on Friday however is slightly more wild, filled with guns and lasers as the beloved characters are reduced to characters in a side-scrolling game (think the days of Gameboy Advanced) as they attempt to survive in the apocalyptic ‘Eternal Nightmare Machine.’

It’s clear the creators are definitely throwing us some curve-balls with the latest drops, and no doubt they probably won’t answer any of our questions (or not clearly anyway) once episodes drop on June 20. Check out the full trailer and ‘Eternal Nightmare Machine’ short below.
