The ‘Inception’ of movie trailers…

Ryan Reynolds, ever the king of hilariously hyping movies, has dropped a super meta trailer for Free Guy. Or should we say, a trailer for the trailer. It’s all a bit confusing tbh, but what we do know is that we’ve gotten a form of pre-teaser, for a trailer meant to drop sometime today or tomorrow.

Reynolds starts the pre-trailer with footage from the film, all before cutting to a zoom call with his fellow cast mates Lil Rel, Joe Keery, Jodie Comer and more. Making light of the hilarious uncertainty of Hollywood in 2020, the cast all take turns announcing various dates for the release of the film, naming dates such as “Christmas”, “New Years”, “Halloween but not the one that you think”, and even “When Mars is in retrograde” (my personal favourite). It’s only a minute long, but so punchy and quirky that if you weren’t keen on the film beforehand, you will be now.

It’s a pretty smart concept, and has definitely succeeded in increasing excitement for the film. Check the full pre-trailer below.
