Reuniting for the first time since 2005’s Wedding Crashers, comedic geniuses Will Ferrell and Rachel McAdams are linking up for Netflix’s Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga, and we’re already sold on the premise. Directed by David Dobkin (who also directed Wedding Crashers), the Netflix comedy follows the characters of Lars Erickssong and Sigrit Ericksdottir (Ferrell and McAdams) as they represent Iceland in the real-life Eurovision contest. The trailer is every bit as goofy and hilarious as you’d expect, as Ferrell and McAdams prove their comedic chemistry.
The film has some other big names gracing it’s cast, with pop-superstar Demi Lovato and Downton Abbey star Dan Stevens playing Eurovision competitors, Pierce Brosnan playing the disapproving father of Ferrell’s character Lars Erickssong, and Graham Norton playing himself as the commentator for the contest.
In addition to the trailer, Netflix has released a short music video for the song ‘Volcano Man’, a music video from Ferrell and McAdams’ characters in the film, and I’m gonna be real with you, it’s a total banger. The trailer sees the stars covered in Viking-themed armour as they show off those gorgeous vocal chops. If the rest of the film is as hilarious as this music vid, this is already guaranteed to be a hit.
Originally slated for a May release, the film was hit with a short delay due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Now, the film will hit Netflix Australia on June 26, along with an official soundtrack dropping the same day. Although the actual Eurovision contest has been cancelled for 2020, this little comedy flick might be able to fill that gaping hole in your heart.
