The Emancipation actor appeared on The Daily Show to break his silence on the infamous slap…

If anyone is in contention for having the shittest year in the world, it’s safe to say it’s former Hollywood heavyweight, Will Smith. The Men In Black star has undergone a very public and controversial fall from grace following his slapping of comedian Chris Rock at this year’s Oscars, with the former’s joke about Jada Pinkett prompting Smith to storm the stage and assault him.

Smith’s actions were condemned across the world and he subsequently retreated from the public eye. But now, he’s back with his first interview since the whole ordeal, and it seems he’s still feeling the effects of one of the “worst nights” of his life. Appearing on The Daily Show with host Trevor Noah yesterday, Smith was visibly still reeling from the ordeal, tearing up at numerous points during the five minute segment as he admits that he “just lost it”.

He also touched on how his family’s history of domestic violence played a role along with his overall mental health. However, he concludes by asserting that the person who stormed the stage back in March isn’t the person he wants to be. Trevor Noah appears to believe Smith, while managing to stress just how out of line his actions were. Whether or not fans will be satisfied with Smith’s apology in the interview remains to be seen, but it’s clear he definitely regrets his actions on that infamous night. Hear it from himself in full below.
