With the natural world continuing to suffer as a result of humanity’s love for excess and waste, countless creative industries are taking it upon themselves to reduce their environmental footprint. Thaely, a fashion-forward sneaker brand founded in 2017, is one of the many shoe vendors in the world attempting to do so, creating shoes through the use of recycled waste and materials.
It sounds simple enough, but it goes a lot further than just sustainability, with Thaely’s sneakers focused on combatting the impacts of plastic waste on marine life, particularly the 100 billion plastic bags that end up in waste and contribute to the death of 100,000 marine animals each year.
It’s an important cause to say the least, and with today being World Ocean Day, it’s one worth revisiting the iconic kicks from the Dubai-based shoe imprint. By repurposing materials from over 50,000 plastic carry bags and 25,000 discarded plastic bottles since July 2021, they’ve made some pretty massive significant strides in addressing pollution. To put things in perspective, each pair of Thaely sneakers incorporates 12 recycled waste plastic bottles, when, if you think about it, is a lot of bloody shoes. Add the fact that they come in a variety of colourways (White Tuxedo, Sky Blue, Blood Red and more) and you couldn’t ask for more from a sustainable sneaker brand.
So be sure to celebrate World Ocean Day this year by being good to your environment, and while you’re at it, do it in a pair of Thaely sustainable sneakers. Head to their official website here for more info.
