It’s not every day you become the face of Bonds’ new campaign, so we’re checking in with Ruby Campbell to get the down low.

Making the move to the US capital of fashion, New York City, to further her career as a model was something of a leap of faith for Melbourne’s Ruby Campbell. Like anyone making the move to somewhere like New York, there is a relearning of social norm and an adjustment to a scarily big city, but for Ruby it also meant navigating the highly competitive US fashion industry.

Thankfully her gamble has paid massive dividends, including her recent inclusion in Bonds Organic campaign which launched today. The sustainability-focussed collection is Bonds’ newest range of iconic basics and their first GOTS certified organic cotton range.

We caught up with Ruby to get the inside word on her big move and what sustainability means to her. Check it out below and head here to shop the Bonds Organic range right now:

Your career is the kind that young models will undoubtedly be looking up to at the moment, who were your favourite faces in the fashion world when you were coming up?

I looked up to Binx Walton and Kate moss

Do you still get nervous shooting big campaigns? Did you ever?

Yes, there has been a few times.

What advice would you give to young models out there?

Take care of yourself.
Don’t compare yourself to other models.
Have confidence in your own individuality.
Have patience.
Sign with an agency that cares for you and your career.

What items do you never leave the house without?

Phone charger
Lip Balm
Metro card

You’ve recently moved to NY, how has adapting to the Big Apple been?

It has been super interesting. It’s my favourite city and I feel like I am meant to be here. When I first moved to New York I was constantly getting lost and catching the wrong train. A year later I’m still not sure where everything is but I love that!

What’s your favourite part about living there?

The culture and the people.

Being out in nature is pretty important to you. How do you do this in NY? Is it possible to get that fix there?

I go to the nearest park in Brooklyn which is nice. In summer, I try to go the nearest beach. Next summer I want to travel north of New York for hikes.

NY is obviously fashion-wise one of the biggest cities in the world. Has your personal style changed since moving there?

I feel like my style hasn’t changed since moving here, but New York does allow me to further express myself in new ways which I feel will eventually have some impact on my personal style.

You’re one of the faces of Bonds’ Organic underwear range, is “organic” or eco-conscious living something that’s important to you?

Yes, I think it’s so important. It’s a step towards the future and something I hope will be more common in the fashion industry.

What’s it like working with an iconic company like Bonds?

Bonds has been a part of growing up as an Aussie kid. It was a pleasure to work with such a great classic Australian brand.

What are you most looking forward to in 2020?

New goals, experiences and opportunities .
