Vans kicked it all off in 1966 with the Authentic, and the shoe quickly became a favourite for skaters of the Dogtown days. Still to this day, just about everybody has owned a pair of the light and beautifully simple Authentic, which then made way for Vans’ other classics to hit the shelves.

The Vans line was given a little more cushioning with the Era, gained an iconic stripe with the Old Skool, grew a little taller with the Sk8-Hi and lost its laces with the Slip On. These five foundational sneakers have now been remixed with countless spin-offs and upgrades over the past 50 years, and have served as a canvas for collabrations from Opening Ceremony to Odd Future.
