Continuing to push the bounds of fashion and forge new paths for creatives, Virgil Abloh has announced a major moment for French Fashion House Louis Vuitton. Abloh, who is currently the head of menswear for Vuitton, has announced a deal with skateboarder Lucien Clarke, the first of its kind. Specifically, Clarke will be given creative “free reign” in the form of a new shoe he’ll be designing for the fashion house, marking the first time a skateboarder has been given the chance to do so. The move comes a year after the pair started working together on video components for the latest Louis Vuitton x Lucien Clarke ad, appearing in the latest edition of popular skate publication Thrasher. They’ve also collaborated on a bunch of other projects, with Clarke modelling Abloh’s Staples Edition collection as well as walking the runway for Abloh’s second Louis Vuitton collection.
Announcing the deal on Instagram, Abloh wrote “just signed Jamaica’s own @Lucienclarke to 𝓛𝓸𝓾𝓲𝓼 𝓥𝓾𝓲𝓽𝓽𝓸𝓷 as the first skater deal of this type. gave him free reign to design his pro model. been filming clips for a year now. first official advert is in the @thrashermag that’s shipping in a second…”
Taking to his own socials to comment on the news, it was clear Clarke was over the moon, writing “WHERE DO I START? I DESIGNED MY PRO SHOE FOR LOUIS VUITTON AND SHOT A SKATE ADVERT FOR THRASHER 🤯NBD… VIRAL. THIS IS ONLY THE BEGINNING.” It definitely is, and we can’t wait to see what else Clarke does with the brand. Check out his addition in Thrasher below.
