In what’s shaping up to be the biggest music event of 2021, Global Citizen has announced the star-studded lineup for its September aid festival. Taking to the stage to support an end to worldwide poverty, the 20+ artists will perform for a full day, live streamed across international channels from the ABC to Hulu and Youtube.
Spanning multiple genres, the roster features pop-heavyweights Billie Eilish, Doja Cat, Lorde and The Weeknd, with Coldplay and Ed Sheeran also set to make their long-awaited musical returns. South Korean boyband BTS will front the international acts, while Burna Boy and H.E.R rep R&B on the international stage. Throwing it back, old-timers Duran Duran, Ricky Martin and J.Lo promise a stack of intergenerational bangers. Heck, even Hugh Jackman and Usher got the call up.
The concert will take place across six continents in iconic stadiums from Paris to New York, and has already raised $300 million in pandemic and poverty relief. In a statement in the lead-up to the festival, The Weeknd said “it is very important to be a part of this historic event,”
“It’ll be an honour to perform and help bring support to these citizens who are suffering so severely,” he said.
