Well-deserved.

Makes perfect sense…

In a groundbreaking feat that’s totally well-deserved and badass, Academy Award and multiple Grammy winner Adele has been named as the UK’s best-selling female album artist of the century. The news comes as the London-based singer topped the chart from the The British Phonographic Industry, beating out fellow megastars like Pink, Madonna, Rihanna, Amy Winehouse and countless more for the accolade.

If you’re somehow surprised or taken aback by the feat, you really shouldn’t be, especially considering that her second album 21 is the UK’s most popular number one album by a female artist since 2001, selling a whopping 6 million copies in the UK alone.

The release of the new stats have coincided with the announcement of the return of National Album Day on October 21, which, very fittingly, will adopt ‘Celebrating Women In Music’ as its 2021 theme.

Speaking on the reintroduction of the auspicious day, Geoff Taylor and Kim Bayley (the execs behind it) said “We are delighted that National Album Day is returning for a fourth edition, shining a light this year on the tremendous contribution women make to music through the album format, supported by our official partners Bowers & Wilkins and BBC Sounds.”

Pretty sick, and no doubt Adele will get some extra shine on the day as well for her numerous classic albums. Check out her record breaking hit ‘Hello’ below to be reminded of her superstardom.
