The Rolling Stone’s “Kiss Logo”, the Ramones’ “Brick Wall Photo”, Pink Floyd’s The Dark Side Of The Moon artwork – these are logos/trademarks that we are now more likely to see on a shirt purchased from K-Mart than in a record store. It’s part of something becoming so iconic that it branches out into the “fashion” world, giving it a new life, separate from music.
It’s often embraced by people that have never listened to the back catalog of these artists or understand its significance – they just saw their fave celeb wearing it on a vintage tee and they liked it (which is fine). Infamously Kendall Jenner was pictured wearing a Slayer tee, causing the band to respond with a “Kill The Kardashians” shirt much to the delight of their fans.
Yesterday, perhaps thinking they would earn a Slayer-esque legend status, San Francisco punks Dead Kennedys called out a girl wear a DK shirt saying she “probably has never heard the song”. That girl was none other than Alison Wonderland, a long time DK fan, who couldn’t help but hit them back with a slice of sass that has had her fans applauding.
“hey Dead Kennedys.. yes I have been a fan since I was 14 until about now seconds ago. I guess that’s why they say never meet your heroes 🤠,” she said in a Facebook post. The message here: don’t judge a book by its cover… or maybe just don’t fuck with Alison Wonderland.
