Alison Wonderland is back and in fine form with her latest single, ‘Down The Line’, the international export returning with her first single since the release of her third studio album, Loner.
The mid-tempo heater doubles down on the hybridised sound she burst onto the scene with via her critically-acclaimed Run in 2015, the multi-instrumentalist interweaving acoustic guitars with fiery synths as she crafts a soundscape that’s both sombre and uplifting. Her vocals strike an anthemic tone as she reaches high into her chest voice, her repetition of the line “I’m gonna be okay this time” maximising in resonance with every utterance.
The visuals for the single (directed by frequent collaborator, Prad Sen) follow a trio of ‘Down The Line’ motivational speakers and the tribulations they encounter as they attempt to inspire a stone-faced crowd. Juxtaposed with shots of Alison performing the track through a TV, the clip reaches a fever pitch of energy as they go to greater and greater lengths to incite optimism.
Speaking on the inspiration behind the new single, Alison explains, “The track is me acknowledging that I was alone during a difficult time but knew that I was going to get through it and be okay, down the line. We’re all going through a dark time right now, and sometimes we need to be reminded that it’s going to be okay. No matter what happens, we will be okay.”
It’s another hard-hitting track from the international export. Alison Wonderland’s new single ‘Down The Line’ is out now. You can buy/stream it here.
