Hot off the release of his and Bruno Mars’ debut smash single as Silk Sonic in ‘Keep The Door Open,’ Anderson .Paak has managed to squeeze in some me-time in between his insane schedule. But by me-time, we don’t mean rest and relaxation or even not doing anything for a day or two, but rather, solo press, because lets face it, do artists as big as Anderson .Paak ever get a proper day off?
Sitting down with Esquire, Paak tackled it all. From Silk Sonic to COVID and just his life in general. But what’s got people talking is the long-awaited update he gave on his homies and collaborators in Kendrick Lamar and, perhaps more importantly, Dr. Dre.
Speaking on K. Dot, Paak kept it pretty casual, saying “We talk just through texts and just off and on. I always check on him and the family and make sure he’s good. He’s always responsive, and just like, just let me know he’s hanging in there just like everybody else.”
Paak also had positive things to say about the OG and his mentor Dr. Dre, who suffered a brain aneurysm at the beginning of this year, saying “Dre’s having a good-ass time. That’s already his life—isolation, working all the time. I think he was probably used to it. But he’s having fun now because a lot of people have more time on their hands, so they can come visit him and make music with big Uncle Dre.”
Definitely good to hear Dre is doing okay, especially after that crazy health scare. And no doubt we’re gonna be getting a bunch of fresh tunes now, if he’s working as much as Paak says he is. Interestingly, it doesn’t seem like the two will be working on a collaboration any time soon though, with Paak saying Dre is taking a step back and is “letting me fly and figure it out.” That’s totally fair enough though, especially considering Paak is on a crazy creative streak right now.
On that note, Paak gave some hints about his upcoming fifth solo album, stating that “With this new material you’re going to get some real topics, and you’re going to get some substance, but mixed with some great grooves,” while trying to get the hook up on his next potential collaborator; none other than K-Pop Band BTS, stating “I’m working on trying to get that plug, man. “If you know of any way, let me know, bro.”
I mean, literally any artist would kill to work with Paak, so long story short, expect a Anderson .Paak x BTS collab incoming any day now. For now, check out his Silk Sonic debut with Bruno Mars in ‘Keep The Door Open’ below.
