Sydney artist Amber Rose has returned and solidified her status as a rising star in the local music scene this Thursday, releasing her new single ‘Limelight’ into the world. Following on from previous creations like ‘In Time’, ‘Stain’ and 2021’s Solace EP, the new record is a confessional ballad with a hell of an emotional punch.
Delving into the struggles of navigating social environments while battling inner turmoil and mental health issues, Rose weaves a tapestry of soul stirring melodies and lyrics, all of which combine for one of her most poignant offerings to date. Right from the breathy opening lyric she immediately sucks you into her orbit, singing lines like “Out here there’s nowhere to hide” with a gripping sense of melancholy that’s equal parts heartbreaking and mesmerising. Such a description is fitting for the track as a whole, and is maximised on the title lyric as multiple harmonies enter the soundscape, pulling from the gospel and country sphere for a multi-genre gem that’s broad in its appeal, but singular in its execution.
Accompanying the new single is the announcement of an accompanying visualiser for the tune, which is slated to land on July 26th. Crafted with laser-focused detail, the music video (directed by Lev Jutsen and a team of local creatives) cements the world of ‘Limelight’ to a ‘T’, and is set to be fully realised when Amber takes it on the road for a run of shows next month. Playing the Vanguard on August 24th, along with a series of dates in Melbourne, Rose is poised to play some of her most important shows to date, especially considering the trove of songs she now has at her disposal. So naturally, she’s a perfect fit for our Artist of the Week. Be sure to cop tickets to her upcoming shows and check out the full video for ‘Limelight’ below.
