Could listen to that vocal all day…

If there’s ever a bumping bassline or packed DF raging, Aussie dance veterans Bag Raiders are never far away, the Sydney lords having dedicated over a decade to making people move all around the country and world. It’s resulted in smash singles, with hits like ‘Shooting Stars’, ‘Way Back Home’ and ‘Sunlight’ helping them to establish a name for themselves around the world along with a sound that’s become instantly recognisable.

Still, they’re not ones to get complacent, as evidenced by their latest single, ‘Love Me Back’. Made from a Meg Mac vocal sample, the new record is an up-tempo bop that features a driving kick and vibrant synths that intermingle with Meg’s vocal with plenty of synchronicity. It’s a straightforward bop that doesn’t take itself too seriously, crafted for those early hours of the night when the energy is rising and rising.

Such a description is appropriate for the songs respective drops, with frenzied stabs and whizzing basslines helping to add an extra sense of drama and excitement that strikes at the heart of the nostalgia associated with ’90s house. Of course, however, the vocal is front and centre of the new record, a fact that was a spur of the moment choice, with the producers explaining:

“We wanted it to sound like we’d sampled an old funk record or something, so we got out the violins and guitars and recorded a bunch of stuff, layered some extra vocals tucked in there, and then chopped that all up. Because this was all happening at the same time we thought hang on… what if we steal a Meg vocal from one session, pitch it up and turn it into a rave vocal in the other? Bag Raider style!”
