This is gonna go off at her sold-out headline shows.

The rise of rapper and Malyangapa, Barkindji woman BARKAA since her release of ‘For My Tittas’ a few years back has been atronomical. Performing at Sydney’s NYE party, taking to the stage at SXSW, and amassing millions of streams are the kinds of milestones that most artists dream of. But, if her new single ‘We Up’ is anything to go by, she’s only warming up.

BARKAA spits fiery bars over a bouncey beat with the rhymes feeling like a rallying call for herself. A personal hype track to combat any tiny little of self-doubt that may have been creeping into her mind. “I wanted to write something that pumped on the stage, that felt good spitting, that uplifted my people and hyped them up. I wanted to create something fun, something cheeky and make a statement on what the concrete jungle raised,” she says.

“I want to show my diversity as a rapper, that I can make bangers if I want to and bring you all to tears in the next track. “We Up” is basically me saying “hello fuck yas, I’m back, I’m here and I ain’t going NOWHERE. Reminding people as a Blak woman in this country, I don’t have to be humble and I’m not lucky, I worked my fucking ass off to get me to where I am today.”

Tomorrow night, she’ll be playing a sold-out show at The Lansdowne before back-to-back sold-out shows at The Curtain, which is probably all the evidence you need that she’s one of (if not the) fastest rising acts in Aus rap at the moment. The hype is real.
