I bloody love an old pub, bowlo or RSL. I love the cheap drinks, I love the stale beer smell, I love the local characters who look at you look “who the fuck’s this bloke” when you walk in – it’s like crack to me. That said, I can admit that I don’t love them quite as much as The Beefs, who today have released a track called ‘The Centre’ which is dedicated to watering holes around the country.
The track is gritty and tense, like a schooner that no matter how much you pour into it, just won’t get filled, untill the wailing release at the outro. If you know The Beefs, you’ll know that there’s never any shortage of tongue-and-cheek lines in their music, even in a love song like ‘The Centre’.

“There were as many pubs as there were people where I grew up in country South Australia” , says frontman Sammy Smith. “Each pub served a purpose for the community. The Boston on Wednesday, The Pier on Friday, The Lincoln on Sunday. There were four in a row down on the main drag…”
The band will be hitting the road in April in support of their sophomore EP, Grillin Jams Vol.1 which is set to hit the airwaves and marinate your eardrums on April 18th. You can catch them Friday 19th April at The River, Margaret River WA (tickets) and
Wednesday 24th April at Coolangatta Hotel, Gold Coast QLD (tickets). More shows coming soon.
Be sure to get out to your local drinking hole and pay your respects this afternoon, and make sure they’re blasting ‘The Centre’ from our Artist Of The Week while you’re doing it! Buy/stream the track here.
