No bad blood…

Over the past five or so years, Geowulf has been established itself as one of the finest purveyors of indie-pop that Aus has. The songwriting and creative partnership between singer Star Kendrick and bandmate Toma Banjanin has been extremely fruitful, yielding 2018’s breakthrough Great Big Blue and 2019’s My Resignation and two EPs, each wavering between shimmering balladry, shoegazey pop and maybe a splash or two of country in there.

Now, the duo have parted ways amicably with Kendrick taking the reigns and stepping out (further) into the spotlight. Today’s release ‘Nightmare’ follows on from ‘Dolly’ and ‘Something Good’ as her first run of “solo” singles which collectively will calm the nerves of fans – the songs still hold that ethereal glow that we’ve been loving since day one.

“It was inspired by Tom leaving the project – this idea that, for so long, he had helped me carry this dream of doing music, and then having to say goodbye,” Kendrick says. “He’s not going anywhere, but I had to grieve that for sure, because we had something really nice going, we had really nice creative chemistry.”

The clip is an intimate and fittingly washed-out portrait with Kendrick delivering the kind of performance you’d expect from your sad cowgirl queen:

‘Nightmare’ is taken from the upcoming third album from Geowulf, The Child, which was written while Kendrick was pregnant with her baby. Follow her on Insta here and stay tuned for more from The Child.
