Over their 20 or so year career, The Horrors have never been afraid to tweak, transform and reinvent themselves. The British group cam to fame at the tail end of the indie explosion, but created their best work after the hype of that scene died down, breaking the genre shackles and consistently pushing. Which bring us to Night Life…
The album – their first since 2017’s V – is undeniably rooted in the 80s, with New Order, Jesus & Mary Chain and The Cure all echoing throughout, but the production is cutting edge, the mixes are euphoric and the synths are tonally so damn deep and dark it feels like you’re listening to the score of and multi-million dolalr film (the film is probably about vampires TBH).
It’s also the first time the band have recorded without all five original members, with core duo Faris Badwan and Rhys Webb now joined by Amelia Kidd (keys) and Jordan Cook (drums). But the chemistry is undeniable. And you can witness it live with The Horrors are taking the album on the road, starting with a run of intimate UK instores before heading into a packed European tour, with stops across Spain, Portugal, Italy and the Netherlands.
Who knows, maybe Aus is next… for now, deep dive into the record above:
