The Jungle Giants are back, baby. Dropping yesterday, ‘Hold My Hand’ is the first gripping piece of indie pop they’ve shared for our thankful earholes since 2023. And it comes with news of a tour that is sure to get the knickers of Australians in quite the twist—but more on that later…
‘Hold My Hand’ sits in this really nice melodic space where it feels both pretty and a little gloomy at the same time, while also being set to a delightfully danceable speed—meaning you can boogie along to it as glittery tears stream down your face. Don’t get me wrong, it’s bloody lovely as is, but given the elements that make up this tune, it’s easy to imagine a lot of producers drooling over the prospect of remixing it into a ravey anthem.
The track also features frontman Sam Hales’ rawest vocals to date, which makes sense given it was written while he was broken-hearted and recovering from a bad jet ski accident. It’s not the most relatable situation, but the emotion behind the words resonates so hard that, even if you didn’t speak a lick of English, you couldn’t help but feel it.
“These are all beautiful, beautiful, positive memories that changed me for the better,” Hales says. “It was just really hard to figure out a way to write about it, and figure out a way to define how I felt. This song really helped open up a lot of the writing for the album. All the songs I wrote before weren’t feeling real enough. Once I landed on ‘Hold My Hand’, a lot of things fell into place for me. I had this real emotional reaction to it.”
