The band have also announced their debut EP of the same name…

Amongst the seemingly never-ending crop of Aussie bands coming to prominence each and every day, one group that has managed to set itself apart from the masses is Eora/Sydney quartet, The Rions. Garnering the attention of the state and country as a whole for their addictive bops, as well as their recent tour for their single ‘Scary Movies’, the indie outfit are fast becoming one of the our most promising artists, and judging by their latest single, ‘Minivan’, it’s well deserved.

Penned about the essence of youth and the pursuit of dreams, ‘Minivan’ combines elements of indie rock and pop to provide a sonic manifestation of the quintessential coming-of-age experiences that define adolescence. Poppy guitar lines collide against soulful vocals in a captivating concoction, one that’s fully realised in the chorus as the band come together for the line “Cause when they wake up in the morning/they won’t notice we’re gone” that feels deliciously nostalgic.

The accompanying music video stays true to the songs sentimental nature, following the band as they escape life in their mini-van and find themselves (but not in a cheesy way) through exploring the natural landscape of Australia, all before they arrive at a Sydney rooftop for the song’s conclusion. The visuals as a whole have this sense of freedom that’s just impossible to miss, a decision that’s by design as the band explain, “‘Minivan’ explores the feelings of purpose and chasing your dreams. We really wanted this song to reflect the wild spirit of youth, with a sound that would evoke a sense of maturing and growing into the person you want to become.”

Along with the new single, the band have also let slip their debut EP of the same name, which is slated to arrive on August 11th. Speaking on the inspiration behind the forthcoming record, the band tease its autobiographical nature, adding, “This EP is definitely a reflection of many experiences the four of us have had individually over the course of our teenage years. The narrative connecting the songs is that of a person that experiences all the ups and downs of an ordinary life. Having issues with yourself, falling in love, having a metltdown and separating yourself from what hurts you most in an attempt to better yourself as a person.”

It’s an exciting entry in the ever-growing Rions discography, and you best get in the know sooner rather than later for the Boost Artist of the Week. Be sure to buy/stream the new single here and pre-order the Minivan EP here
