It’s rare that you can find a body of music that captures moods with precision while living rent-free inside your head thanks to a mountain of melodic hooks and soulful grooves, but that’s exactly what Eora/Sydney-based R&B artist RISSA has achieved on her silky new EP.
“The project is chronologically crafted to step through the chapters of a love story, moving through the newfound interest, to honeymoon feels, heartbreak moments and empowered acceptance. WHERE LOVE ONCE WAS is simply a relatable love story captured in its full essence,” explains RISSA.
And what a journey it is. Opening with ‘FOREVER’, RISSA sets the tone with warm, honeyed vocals and laid-back production that glows with that first-flush-of-love energy. Things bloom fully on ‘ALL I NEED’ — a classic R&B love song in every sense: dreamy, euphoric and brimming with honeymoon-stage sweetness.
By ‘FALL OUT’, the mood dips into heartbreak territory, her voice floating through silky harmonies and lush, late-night production that aches in all the right ways. It all comes to rest on ‘STRANGERS AGAIN’, a slow, jazz-infused closer that feels like a deep exhale — the sound of acceptance after the storm.
