Not gonna lie, it feels like only a little while ago that we were talking about Royel Otis’ debut album Pratts & Pain, with the band issuing a steady stream of bonus singles, b-sides and random tracks since it dropped. Now, it feels like they’re actually back, with ‘moody’—which, by all appearances, is the first single off what will be their sophomore record.
Debuting the track at a couple of sold-out shows in LA, the band have been teasing a release over their socials in the simplest of ways—by basically describing everything they’re doing. For example, their official quote about the track is “It’s a song about a girl.” Deep.
The tune itself is a bit of a departure from P&P as (perhaps) the pair stray from the early-2000s influences and delve into more 90s territory. Otis’ vocals haven’t changed—they’re still vulnerable and melodic and bloody catchy.
They’ve also just announced their “Meet Me in the Car” tour, which will see the duo hit major cities across the U.S. and Canada—including New York, Philly, D.C., Dallas, Austin, Seattle, and more.
