The reputation of UK artist Mike Skinner (AKA The Streets) is truly remarkable. The garage, baseline, and grime MC has traversed the realms of hip-hop and dance with his iconic voice since his debut LP Original Pirate Material in 2002, all the while giving a voice to working-class Britons throughout the UK. He’s a leading voice in UK music, and thankfully, the king has finally returned to his throne, releasing his latest album The Darker the Shadow, the Brighter the Light earlier this year.
Filled with singles like ‘Kick The Can’, ‘Each Day Gives’ and the much beloved ‘Troubled Waters’, the new LP is a turning back of the clock to the OG sound of the UK project, one for the day ones and grassroot fans alike. Thankfully, such an effort coincides with The Streets’ announcement of his return to Australia, which is slated to kick off in March next year.
Debuting on March 6th in Perth and set to feature dates in Sydney, Melbourne, Brissy and more, the shows will be The Streets’ biggest in the country to date. The Hordern Pavilion, Margaret Court, Fortitude Music Hall and more will all play host to Skinner and his live show in 2024. Picture the tangible grit and awe of his music combined with slick social commentary and signature British humour. Oh, and some massive lights backed by a ridiculous sound system. It’s a striking setting, one where The Streets and his chronicles of Britain shine brightest.
Tickets are expected to fly for this one, so you should definitely act fast. Presale starts tomorrow at 10am local time, with general sale tickets available from 10am this Friday. We’ll see you there.
