We gave it a week to sink in…

And that equates to a lot of listens… like a lot. Now that we’ve had some time to digest Tyler, The Creator’s eighth studio album CHROMAKOPIA, we’ve gathered our thoughts. Anyone who’s seen Tyler live knows that his music feels like a rolling series of vignettes, with the vibe and flow constantly shifting—it’s as eclectic as ever. But is it “great”?

That’s a tricky question. On one hand, CHROMAKOPIA shows off Tyler’s signature style, mixing hip-hop, R&B, and jazz in ways that keep you on your toes. His ambition shines through as he navigates the ups and downs of adulthood and self-identity with an intentionally messy approach. There are definitely standout moments that highlight his lyrical skills—take ‘Balloon,’ for instance, where his wordplay and relaxed flow really shine.

Sure, some tracks like ‘Sticky’ and ‘Noid’ aim for big vibes and don’t always hit the mark, but that’s part of Tyler’s charm. He’s always trying to push boundaries, which makes the album an intriguing listen. It’s not just about the beats; it’s about the journey he takes us on.

Thematically, CHROMAKOPIA dives into Tyler’s inner thoughts, tackling anxieties about family and personal growth. Songs like ‘Hey Jane’ and ‘Judge Judy’ show a raw, honest side of him, inviting listeners to connect with his experiences. While the album can feel a bit chaotic at times, it also highlights an artist who’s constantly evolving.

Of course with the new album, comes a world tour which includes dates around Australia in 2025. Check the dates below and head here for tickets.
