The amount of BS this venue has endured is insane…

One of the nation’s most cherished venues for dance music and events in general, Melbourne’s ATET, has responded to the cooked treatment the City of Melbourne (COM) has hit them with over the past couple of months, with the tumultuous battle now resulting in a full termination of the floating nightclub’s licence.

For those not aware of the whole ordeal, the COM has been slamming the venue with countless noise restrictions and other legislative headaches over the past couple of months, with the COM going so far as initiating proceedings to issue a notice of default on ATET nightclub’s planning permit. Add the fact that club had to close down earlier this year after a suspected arsen attack, and you’d be fully justified in thinking that ATET has been royally fucked over by the COM since day one.

Despite all this, however the club has made every effort to abide by the COM’s guidelines, whether it be reducing noise levels, restricting its opening hours and even offering to have music only play at background levels until a permanent solution could be found. It seems, however, that the COM has no interest in cooperating, with ATET owner Jake Hughes explaining that the council has yet to respond to his efforts at reaching a compromise, despite their encouraging him to “commit to this business” when he was initially starting the club.

It’s a pretty fucked situation not only for ATET, but promoters and dance lovers across Melbourne as a whole, because if a local council can screw over a business this bad and get away with it, then what precedent does it set for other venues? Check out ATET’s full statement below, and be sure to sign their petition here.
