One hell of a story…

Big Sean is definitely killing the rap game right now, his latest album Detroit 2 making waves for its crazy overflow of passion and lyrical range. And to top it off, the California-born star managed to recruit Dave Chapelle, one of the greatest comedians of all time, to have his own track on the album ‘Story by Dave Chapelle’. Opening up on the collaboration, Big Sean didn’t mince words, telling Nadeska on Apple Music 1 “[Chappelle] was like, ‘I love your dad, man. I love your dad.’ And I was like, “What?” He was like, ‘Bro, I love your dad.’ Actually that was the first thing he said to me. I’m like, ‘Yo, what’s up.’ He’s like, ‘Yo, I love your dad, man.’ And then he said, ‘Yo, I’m a big fan.’ But that’s when I was like, ‘Oh, sh*t.’

Sounds pretty random right? Dave’s actually got a pretty sick story with Big Sean’s dad, and he goes into depth on how they first met on ‘Story by Dave Chapelle’. Specifically, Dave opens up on how Big Sean’s dad comforted him after bombing on stage in Detroit (accompanied by a beautiful slow-jam style piano playing in the background), saying “It turns out that this kind older gentleman was Big Sean’s father, dnd my goodness what the, the, he gave me a pep talk that only a dad could give. And it made me feel wonderful, man. So shoutout to you Big Sean, shout out to Detroit. I’ll never stop loving your city, and I’ll never stop loving you, bro. You guys are the truth, much love to the Motor City.”

It’s a pretty amazing story, and clearly Dave never forgot the encounter, with Big Sean saying “You know, so when I told Dave I was working on the album for Detroit, he was like, ‘Bro, not only will I do the skit, I’ll come out and do a show with you. You know, I’ll come out and support you just ’cause I believe in you.’ You know, so I appreciate him for being on that level of humility still when he is who he is, you know.”

Definitely one of the most beautiful origin stories we’ve ever heard for a song. Check out ‘Story by Dave Chapelle’ below.
