More bad news for Byron Bay locals who hate good times and great music. Having just got over Splendour, the Northern NSW town has now been hit with reports that Bluesfest 2019 is, sadly, headed their way. For those of us who don’t mind some good vibes in the sunshine, this is a very welcome announcement, with the festival naming some big local and international acts in their first lineup release.
Headed our way for the Easter Long Weekend in April will be wave-riding indie/folk act Jack Johnson, the smooth R’n’B sounds of Ben Harper & The Innocent Criminals, the slacker rock of Kurt Vile & The Violators and the freaky funk sounds of George Clinton and Parliament Funkadelic – just to name a few.
Tex Perkins, Kasey Chambers and Tommy Emmanuel mark the notable Aussie names in this installment that promises to be the biggest ever Bluesfest, with the festival marking its 30th birthday. “We will only turn 30 once, and we intend to make this edition truly memorable,” festival director Peter Noble says.
