Following the resounding success of its inaugural edition, Brisbane Powerhouse has finally announced return of the ΩHM Festival of Other Music, scheduled to captivate audiences from February 28 to April 20, 2024. Much like its predecessor, the festival promises an eclectic blend of cutting-edge music, boundary-pushing performances, and pioneering visual art, meticulously curated by Brisbane Powerhouse Arts Program Director Brad Spolding and celebrated composer Lawrence English.
The festival boasts an impressive lineup featuring a diverse range of artists, including Yothu Yindi, Michael Rother, Drab Majesty, Boris, Kim Gordon, Stephanie Lake, and more. Audiences can expect a unique fusion of international and Australian talents, providing an immersive experience that spans music, performance, and movement.
The event is not just limited to music alone, however, with it delving into the world of visual art with two exhibitions by cultural icon Kim Gordon, best known as the founding member of Sonic Youth. Her works, “Objective Projection” and “Proposal For A Dance,” provide a thought-provoking commentary on surveillance, urban life, and traditional rock gestures.
For those with a passion for movement and dance, choreographer Stephanie Lake will present “Colossus,” a contemporary performance featuring 50 dancers and a mesmerizing soundtrack by Robin Fox. Chunky Move’s “Universal Estate” explores disposable culture and the obsession with trends, shedding light on the impact of industrial and technological advancements. Australasian Dance Collective’s “THREE” offers a captivating triple bill featuring diverse voices and fresh art.
