The man doesn’t miss…

Dillon Francis. It’s a name almost synonymous with the term ‘Dance Music,’ and it’s one that’s graced charts, lineups and stages all across the world. The EDM veteran has done just about all there is to do in the ionosphere of the music industry, whether it’s sell out shows or drop multi-platinum hits. The man literally doesn’t miss, and it seems not even a pandemic can slow him down, the Los Angeles megastar poised to end 2021 on highs upon highs in the form of, you guessed it, bangers upon bangers.

His latest single ‘Reaching Out’ ft. Bow Anderson is a continued showcase of his mastery of dance and feeling. The vibrant synth lines atop larger than life drops and drum-patterns electrify you into a world beyond your own, capturing that unmistakable euphoria that emanates from any summer-dance floor or mosh pit. It might be a little while longer until we can experience those very moments again, but we’ve got ‘Reaching Out’ to tide us over in the meantime, along with Franis’ recently announced album Happy Machine, which is out now October 5th.

We caught up with Dillon ahead of the release of ‘Reaching Out’ as well as the announcement of the upcoming LP. Check it below.

Congrats on ‘Reaching Out’! It’s such a perfect summer song and has ‘poolside party’ vibes written all over it. Was there a specific image or place you had in mind while making it? Somewhere you wanted to transport the listeners to?

I tried to think about what would help bring everyone to their happiest place.

You and Bow really mesh well on the song together, it sounds like as soon as you started working together you had instant chemistry. Is that accurate?

Bow really made this record come to life, her energy was the perfect fit.

That hook is like a short of endorphins straight to the brain. How did it come to be? Was it Bow riffing or did you have that chord structure ready to go?

Bow brought her personality to it for sure, but it was truly a collaborative effort from start to finish.

It’s been interesting seeing a lot of the music being made during lockdown. You’d think because of how much everyone has been through, the music would be heavier, more emotive and such, as opposed to super upbeat and joyful. What do you think is the reason behind that?

We all needed something positive to look forward to, so not only was making this music a joyful experience for me personally, but the main goal was trying to bring everyone a little bit of happiness.

It also seems to have been a time of intense creativity for you, having dropped several tracks this year alone along with the ‘Very Important’ music EP. Have you just been totally overwhelmed with inspiration as of late?

Happy Machine is just such a focused album for me so a lot of the inspiration came from knowing what I wanted the end product to be. I can’t wait for everyone to spend time with it…and yes there’s a lot more music to come!

You’ve also announced your new album ‘Happy Machine’ so big congratulations on that. How does ‘Happy Machine’ further the story of Dillon Francis

Happy Machine sets the tone for what’s been inspiring me recently and what I’m gonna really be focusing on moving forward.

How well do you reckon you did in terms of those happiness levels? On a scale of lockdown live streams to a good festival moshpit where everyone is totally off their face?

I think I fucking nailed it on ultimate buck wild happiness.

Although happiness is the main theme of this upcoming record, were there any others? Was there a thematic narrative of sorts helping to drive the LP?

Yes the others were fun, connection, and dancing off your face

I’m guessing you’ve already tested a couple of songs from the record at one of your many recent live shows (they all look bloody wild on IG), how have the crowd been receiving them?

Incredible. Everyone has been dancing and singing! I think that’s a good sign.

You’ve also been obviously having a tonne of fun and ridiculousness on stage, just going off your IG reels, have you got any more ideas for the Gram? Can we expect a viral moment any time soon?

Lol I have no idea just doing what I love here and if it connects it connects.

Lastly, when can we next expect you to return down under? And when you do eventually come back, can we expect a little Dillon Francis X LWA hang out similar to the one we had in 2016? For old time’s sake?

SOON. I cannot wait to be back in Australia, I miss it so much.

Dillon Francis’ new single ‘Reaching Out’ is out now. You can buy/stream it here. You can pre-save new upcoming album ‘Happy Machine’ here.
