Just a little over a month since the release of his explosive single ‘Bite The Bullet’, Inner West-based muso Dantè Knows is back in the limelight for his latest offering ‘Banter’, and similarly to past releases, the new track is one of Dantè’s most innovative yet.
Beginning with a grungy guitar loop, the MC swaps his rapper hat for that of lyrical songbird, utilising his tenor sensibilities as he displays soaring vocals about falling “in love with despair” and all such a romance entails. That is before frequent collaborator Paddy Cornwall and the Westway collective enter with some hearty backing vocals, repeating the phrase “Ain’t nothing criminal/take no prisoners” in what’s an overflow of emotion.
Of course, we’re treated to a fiery rap verse from the ‘MercY’ rapper, however, this is definitely a predominantly-sung tune, with reggae and other surf rock melodics revealing themselves throughout the ballad’s duration in what’s a melting pot of genres and feels.
Along with the new single, the MC has also teased an upcoming music video centred around him down on his luck, embracing the melancholy of the sonics through a cinematic lens. No word yet on when the visuals are set to land, but judging by Dantè’s past offerings, we’re guessing it’ll be well worth the wait. Dantè Knows’ new single ‘Banter’ is out now. Check it out above along with the teaser for his upcoming music video below.
