This will definitely be good…

If you’ve ever been at all keen to see a biopic about former rapper Vanilla Ice (I feel like the majority of responses to this will be no, but regardless, roll with me here) then you’re in luck, as 21 Jump Street star Dave Franco is set to portray the infamous rapper in an upcoming biopic, and we’re convinced that this is gonna be a home run.

The new film, named To The Extreme after Ice’s 1990 debut album, is set to follow Vanilla Ice from a “high school dropout selling cars in Dallas to having the first hip-hop single to top the Billboard chart.” You might be thinking “this doesn’t sound like a home run at all”, but in an interview Franco did last year when the film wasn’t officially confirmed, he stated that he wanted a Disaster Artist type of tone for the film, which is just perfect in our eyes. Specifically, he said “With that movie, people expected us to make a broad comedy where we make fun of Tommy Wiseau, but the more real we played it, the funnier and heartfelt it was – that’s the tone we want for this one as well.” Just ignoring all that, Franco has mad acting creds to his name, starring in kick-ass films along with The Disaster Artist such as Nerve & Now You See Me.

Ice has reportedly been super helpful in the pre-production process as well, with Franco saying in a statement “Vanilla Ice/ Rob Van Winkle is such a sweet and intelligent guy and he’s been super helpful in the process of getting all the details correct and making us privy to information the public doesn’t know. Just talking to him I can’t help but think about the rabbit holes I’m going to go down to get ready for the role.”

Usually, we’d be less than optimistic for a flick like this, but after seeing The Disaster Artist, we trust that Dave knows exactly what he’s doing with this. Check out a reminder of Vanilla Ice’s talents below and try to imagine Dave rocking those dance moves instead of old mate.
