Dear Seattle are back, bearded-up and ready to please.
It’s been a while between drinks with our dear pals, Dear Seattle. The grungey punks from Gadigal country (Sydney) and their debut album Don’t Let Go was definitely on our 2019 highlight reel. Full of sing-along-worthy choruses, chunky riffery and plenty of moshable moments it was one of those records that made the shitfuckery of 2020 bearable – at least we could drench ourselves in beer and pretend we were watching them live, right? And who could forget that ‘Like A Version:

Last month, they re-emerged from a creative hibernation with a tasty new tune, ‘In My Head’, a shiny new video, an East Coast tour, and a couple of extra handfuls of facial hair. If there was a musical version of that guy who came out of lockdown jacked, it’d be DS. Naturally, they’ve maintained their knack of writing earworms that pack an emotional punch, with the track lyrically taking a deep dive into life’s shallow conversations and phoniness.
“[‘In My Head’ is] about stepping back into your regular life after a period of withdrawn reflection, walking around like a spectator to your own life,” singer/guitarist Brae Fisher says. “There’s a thin barrier of disconnection as you try to adjust and settle back into everyday interactions, which is just enough to make you notice the true absurdity of monotonous small talk and forced conversations,”

And if you thought that was all the Dear Seattle we have for you, you clearly didn’t read the headline of this article, because the guys have thrown together an oh-so-sweet version of ‘In My Head’ that is the perfect afternoon serenade for your earholes. Showing the melancholy track in a whole new light, drummer Josh McKay even incorporates a previously unheard instrument known as an Eski into the recording.
