Diplo has spoken out after a carnival set of his in Brazil was cancelled due to a shooting. He was set to play at a street party when two audience members got into an altercation, following one of them trying to steal the others chain, when the shots occurred.
Photographer Amauri Nehn, who was present at the event, described what it was like to Brazillian outlet UOL, saying “Someone heard a shot and warned the people who were on top of the trio to bend over. Then I took pictures of the security guard protecting [Diplo]. There was a boy who was hit in the abdomen and another girl hit in the leg”.
Diplo has since taken to Instagram to comment on the incident.
Props to Diplo being the legend he is, as he was fully ready to play 15 minutes after the shooting, but couldn’t due to severe thunder and lighting, which he described as “as if Brazil started to cry”.
The California native added in a since deleted comment that there were no fatalities which is great news. Shows should be a safe place for all and people shouldn’t have to be afraid when enjoying live music.
Prayers to all involved, and respect to Diplo for being an absolute boss.
