In some awesome news that DMX Stans will be jumping with joy at, streams for his catalog have shot the hell up since his passing, with almost everyone in the world revisiting Dark Man X’s music to get a never-ending reminder of how he revolutionised hip hop.
To break it down for you, before X’s hospitalisation, he was streamed about 700,000 to 1 million times a day. During his hospitalisation (from April 3 to 8), that daily number rose to a crazy 3-4 million per day. And once it was announced that X would be taken be sadly taken off life support, his tracks gained a 75.7 million on-demand streams on April 9 & 10 alone, leading to a 928% increase overall.
The top five songs which received the most streaming love during April 9 & 10 were none other than ‘Ruff Ryders Anthem’ (9.59 million streams, up 973 percent), ‘X Gon’ Give It To Ya’ (5.79 million streams, up 900 percent), ‘Slippin’ (5.52 million streams, up 853 percent), ‘Party Up (In Here)’ (5.20 million streams, up 941%) and ‘How It’s Goin’ Down’ ft. Faith Evans (3.52 million streams, up 691 percent).
Most of the above hits were all featured on DMX’s The Best Of compilation album, which has since re-entered the Billboard Hot 100 and is set to sell 12,000 album equivalent units for the week.
It’s definitely sick to see X getting some proper love since his passing, hopefully people continue to listen while more and more people are put onto his music (if they weren’t absoluetely obsessed already).
