Tech house juggernaut Dom Dolla is back with a gear-heavy visual for his latest track ‘Pump The Breaks,’ and it’s made us, well, pump our fucking breaks. It’s a slightly different video from the ‘San Frandisco’ producer, set in a run-down car yard with the main star of the visual being a 2001 Toyota Camry (with red flames on the side and the biggest damn spoiler we’ve ever seen).
The video, directed by Prad Sen, is essentially a surrealist tribute to car culture, highlighting the intricacies of automobiles along with the inclusion of several rev-head characters and all of their signature attributes. Not to mention, they’re all strange AF, which Dom mirrors with several quirky appearances in the video. It’s like Arrested Development meets Fast and the Furious, the fiery aesthetic of pimped out cars juxtaposing the strange and slightly worriesome nature of the characters in the video. But it totally works, and the hard hitting tech-house beats of ‘Pump The Breaks’ in the background just further add to the immersion.
Speaking on the car-heavy video, director Prad Sen “Dom asked me to make a video about cars. So I made the most car video that has ever car’d in the history of cars,” with Dom also writing online “‘Pump The Breaks’ Was inspired by my first car (a dinged up old 2001 Toyota Camry). A set of wheels I’ve been struggling to part with for years and years and for whatever reason I still drive today.
“So, we decided it was only fitting to make it the star of my new video clip.”
