Our pick of the two is ‘One Dance’, featuring Wizkid and sampling ‘Do You Mind’ by Kyla. The track’s already been stuck in our heads for a few hours, taking throwback house and dancehall influences and mashing them elegantly with Drake’s featherweight crooning. It sounds smooth on our ears, it feels like summer, and we can imagine that this is going to get absolutely rinsed by DJs as early as this weekend. Prepare to hear ‘One Dance’ at every club in existence.
The other jam ‘Pop Style’ is definitely the bigger talking point on the Internet, because it features the addition of ‘The Throne’ aka Kanye West and Jay Z. While Watch The Throne was a bit of a bummer compared to the individual catalogues of both Ye and Jigga, the two reuniting is still exciting – especially on a Drizzy track, and even if Jay Z only dropped by for a few moments. The rap track much more ominous than ‘One Dance’, and again shows the sonic diversity that’s made Drake one of hip-hop’s most interesting characters.
Listen to both jams below. Meanwhile, our pals in Halfway Crooks will be hosting a Drake dedication night in Sydney on May 7, which will hopefully feature Drake’s verse from ‘Pop That‘ on repeat! Head down to Plan B Small Club to find us dancing and crying at the same damn time.
We expect Views From The 6 to be pretty darn enjoyable:
