The Adelaide trio go big on their debut EP – here’s how it was made.

Having only played their debut show (albeit a sellout) back in September last year, it seems like EAST AV3 are destined for some big things. Copping national attention as a featured artist on triple j Unearthed before taking out a top-five spot in their DIY Supergroup competition, the lads are definitely carving out the first steps into a big career – and now they have the EP to prove it.

Their debut RUGRAT$, which was released last Friday, follows on from fan favourites and ‘Le Labo’ and ‘Riding Through The Fire’ and further highlights their knack of dropping hard-hitting bars backed by big ‘90s-influenced beats. ‘BL3W BAND$’, which is a standout on the EP, delivers lush samples with big vocal hooks and a hypnotic beat. Though it features some crisp production, the track would feel right at home in the sleaziest of clubs in the sleaziest of hours.

To celebrate the release of RUGRAT$ the trio shared with us some snaps from their recording sessions. Check ‘em out, along with their comments below:

Perfecting the verse or in modified terms “licking the balls”.

Just a warm up before we steam the booth and gain the inspiration for jig.

After a 1 take freestyle of riding through the fire on the wrong beat.

Had to change a lyric in the first few lines to make it appropriate. Hence why it’s “bad manners dont matter, yeah”

Nic’s mad the desk isn’t working again.

So will it be business or pleasure? Porque no los dos?

BLEW BAND$ in the making, what we thought was expanding our sound but really was just another step in the process.
